The Second Station is the moment when Christ takes the cross upon His shoulders and sets out for Golgotha. This specific moment has rarely been depicted in art. Instead the journey itself was commonly depicted - Christ was usually shown already carrying the cross. Often elements from other Stations of the Cross were interwoven into these scenes, combining several events into a single scene. For the Second Station, we will show you, among other things, the famous sculpture standing in front of the Holy Cross Church on Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw and a late medieval engraving.
